For nearly 25 years Boston Dynamics has been working on robotics for the United States military, DARPA and other organizations. Their attention to “advanced robots with remarkable behavior: mobility, agility, dexterity and speed” is remarkable. And now it appears that Santa Clause has hired them to develop a set of new robots.
Boston Dynamics let it slip out when the following video appeared on their YouTube channel. No wonder the rumors abound that Santa is thinking of retiring his reindeer in favor of this new breed of robotics. It appears that Mrs. Clause took the new reindeer on a test drive at the Boston Dynamics Headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts.
The company has not issued any statement on whether they are working on a replacement for Rudolf. Santa and Mrs. Clause have not been available for comment according to their spokesman who gave me this statement: “They are preparing for their annual world-wide trip to deliver presents and coal.” I think this was a not-so veiled warning for me not to investigate further.
Upon closer inspection, is that a red nose on the lead reindeer?
